Dynamo At The Podium
“Teaching is the profession that teaches all other professions”
Luckily, there are teachers who make teaching an art form. Teaching is their passion and life calling. If you have read a few of my previous stories you will be acquainted with three of those exceptional ladies. Mrs. Knapp, who by one sentence uttered in 2nd grade propelled my education into overdrive. And, Mrs. Dietrich, who rescued my mental health by placing one particular book in my hand in my 5th grade school year. My Jr. year of high school was powered by the eccentric “Tex Ann” Aldriedge and her constant search for that next writing contest or jingle entry for either herself or one of her hand-picked students. Mrs. June Richardson was another of those dedicated teachers who worked beyond the classroom and made teaching her passionate calling in life. Most fortunate for me was that my school days were peppered with a few of those “dynamo” teachers who gave me direction, inspiration, and motivation to look beyond my small rural town and aim for something more.
My Senior year found me in the classroom of Mrs. June Richardson, who was known for accepting nothing less than perfect and proper grammar and spelling. She was also the Senior Class Advisor, and I was active in student government, and as our class President. She took me in stride and made it her mission to hone my writing skills and to get me into college…
