I have been writing on Medium for a couple of years, and will soon submit my 100th story. I have tended to ignore all the "Make Money on Medium" articles, as I didn't begin writing here to make money. Of course, I'm pleased when an article does make a few dollars, but that has never been my goal. I write to understand myself, and I read to understand others. For me, that is the goal and the reward. Hope that makes sense.
