Interestingly enough, in the society of gay men there is also a male gaze. Gay men communicate by gaze much more than straight men. Gay men will look one another "right in the eye" upon meeting. Straight men do not do this. A gaze such as that is looked up as a threat. Just thought I'd add that note.
